Town Manager Dave Cox told the Economic Development Commission on July 21 that the town is working to fill multiple Town Hall vacancies after Juliet Hodge left for another job. Cox said Hodge will remain as acting Town Planner to help complete the Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD), which is in the final drafting phases and may require one more public feedback session.
Cox also reported that the Village Center project is about 99% complete with only minor details remaining, and that the Brownfields program received a $250,000 grant from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) for remediation on recreation and mixed-use properties. According to the minutes, on-site testing and pond remediation have been performed at the property at 3 Walnut. Commission members discussed finishing concepts for the Summit and Watrous properties, and Cox said the building at 13 Summit needs demolition; a petition by Matt Puzzo requests more green space for those parcels. The Board of Finance approved a recommended budget that the Town Council will review, and Cox said a referendum may occur in early August.
