Summary

The committee considered community service requests that totaled about $64,000, including a $40,000 request from CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and $6,000 for Nevada Outdoor School. Family Court staff emphasized CASA’s role representing children in custody cases and said changes in state law have made CASA’s work more important.
A motion forwarded grant recommendations to the full commission but deferred the Ndau youth fishing license request for additional information; commissioners also directed that the annual fireworks funding be paid from the recreation fund rather than the general fund. "CASA is probably one of the most important parts of the process for the kids alone," said Michelle Rodriguez of Family Court.
