Jackpot Town’s tentative budget and capital requests were presented to the Elko County Budget Committee, which heard that the town’s assessed valuation is down 1.45% and the town’s population declined by two people since the last assessment. Susan, the county budget analyst, said the town’s recommended general fund revenues are about $2,400,000 and that the town advisory board asked for roughly $157,000 in additions to the tentative budget.
Committee members pressed staff on the state consolidated tax true‑up and timing, which staff said has produced a multi‑month lag in remittances and a one‑time redistribution effect. “As everybody is aware, the assessed valuation that we receive from the state shows the county as a whole as being down 1.29,” Susan said, noting that state system changes are in a troubleshooting phase. The committee clarified it could discuss the Jackpot presentation but could not take formal action at this meeting and agreed to forward the presentation and the committee’s inability to formally recommend to the full commission for final consideration.
