Resident presses Dunsmuir council on creek restoration; Director asks for prior notice of tree work

Helen Cartwright, speaking from 4200 Pinewood Drive, told the council she had expected the creek restoration item to be on an upcoming meeting agenda and asked if that remains scheduled. Cartwright said she has watched long-time downtown businesses close and listed several by name while urging the council to address the creek restoration project.
"I was looking at your agenda, and, for future agenda items, I did not see the creek," Cartwright said. "We've lost Cafe Maddalena's. We've lost Pops. We've lost the Wheelhouse. We've lost Peter Arth." Her comments asked the council to confirm when the creek item will be scheduled and to prioritize community restoration efforts.
Director Alan Clother thanked the council for sharing the reasoning behind tree removal at the top of Hedge Creek Falls Park and asked that the city give the public advance notice when major aesthetic or creek-related work will occur so residents are not surprised. "When things like this are in the works, if the city could give the public a heads up, not after the fact because people get really upset when creeks are turned off and trees are cut down," Clother said, urging better notice to avoid community morale impacts.
Council and staff said they would look into the creek item scheduling and staff indicated they were working through logistics; the city manager said a full update might not be ready immediately but staff will follow up.
