The Hartland Township Board authorized the public works director to purchase and apply roadway chloride through the county cooperative agreement, with the forthcoming contract from Chloride Solutions priced at $0.229 per gallon and a township authorization cap of $95,000.
Public works staff said the cooperative arrangement and the county’s first treatment provide cost buffering and that last year’s usage and costs varied with weather. "We actually reduced a little bit this year...we don't wanna trim that down too much, because this summer could be the driest summer we've ever had," Scott said, explaining staff’s caution about adjusting quantities too far below prior years.
The board approved the authorization on a voice vote and directed the public works director to proceed under the forthcoming contract with Chloride Solutions.
