The Hartland Township Board approved a maintenance agreement with Horizon Landscape to maintain medians along M‑59 and landscape areas around Heartland Fire Department Station 61, with the contract amount not to exceed $41,287.
Public works staff told the board they solicited other quotes and that Horizon’s bid for M‑59 maintenance came in lower than a competing reputable landscaper. "We actually did go out to another reputable landscaper... they actually came in higher than what this quote was for the M 59 maintenance," Scott said, adding that the contractor's crews and equipment provide needed protections when working along a higher‑speed corridor.
Trustees discussed whether township staff could perform some maintenance for nearby facilities — for example the teen center or the fire station — to save costs. Staff cautioned that mowing or landscape work along state or high-speed corridors requires special equipment, permitting and training and may be less safe for township crews. The board approved the agreement on a voice vote.
