CSO reports surge in shelter intakes and grant request to fix kennels

Lacey, the community service officer, gave a detailed report on shelter operations and code-enforcement activity since the CSO division began earlier this year. She told the council the division nd her colleague Caitlin have stepped up enforcement: "So between me and Caitlin, since April to, I believe, this past Monday, we've done approximately a 100 bin inspections, 50 plus fingerprints done," and she said the most frequent violations are weed complaints that are handled primarily through outreach and compliance rather than citations.
She also provided shelter intake and outcome numbers: "We've had 82 dogs enter that shelter this year for all different reasons. 50 of those were strays. 26 of them were owner surrenders." Lacey said the shelter applied for a grant (she stated it was "I think it was 36,000 to be exact") to repair outdoor kennels and planned a separate December grant application to help cover veterinary expenses. She asked the council to support coordination with local nonprofits and to let staff pursue grant follow-up.
