Committee reviews SUP/kayak launch research with Tiburon, cites parking, tides and permitting as constraints
Summary
A subcommittee reported on research into possible downtown SUP/kayak launch sites in partnership with Tiburon, identifying candidate locations and raising concerns about parking burden on Belvedere, tidal usability, and permitting (BCDC, Army Corps). The committee agreed to stay engaged while Tiburon re-organizes its subcommittee.

Marika Bergson presented findings from the SUP/kayak subcommittee about potential launch sites and possible partnership with Tiburon. The subcommittee reviewed parcel maps, conducted site visits and identified existing launches (Harbor Cove Park and Paradise Park Beach) and several downtown candidate sites near Main Street, Bramble Beach and West Shore Avenue.
"We have reviewed some parcel maps for some identified locations, and we've personally surveyed the locations," Bergson said, and she described four evaluation criteria the subcommittee used: nearby parking, usable water (considering tides and sanctuary closures), complexity and permitting needs, and overall ease-of-use to encourage public use. Members emphasized tidal constraints (Richardson Bay Sanctuary seasonal closures and tidal exposure) and the difficulty of parking near some candidate sites.
Tony Boyd noted that projects touching the mean high tide line would almost certainly require BCDC approval and potential mitigation for any bay fill, and that other permits (water boards, Army Corps of Engineers) may be required. Several members urged public outreach to gauge demand and raised concerns that parking burdens would fall on Belvedere if Tiburon pursues sites that front Belvedere property. The committee did not vote to adopt the project as a priority but agreed to remain engaged and share the subcommittee report with Tiburon.
