Committee backs bench backrest and minor extension for Park Lane seating

Committee members supported a lip or backrest for comfort and discussed extending the bench slightly beyond existing railings to avoid cutting off seating.
"I like the lip. I like the lip. More comfy," Chair Charlie Harrington said during the design review. Staff member Chris said the bench can move forward now pending final design and quotes, and anticipated that a local contractor the city has used before might be able to provide a lower-cost option than prefabricated vendor pricing. Tony Boyd noted that if the bench cost is under $3,000 the procurement process is simpler, while amounts above that threshold would require multiple quotes.
Committee members also discussed trimming overgrowth and coordinating tree and landscape work to improve sightlines from the bench; Tony said tree work and landscape improvements can be scheduled as part of ongoing maintenance or funded through operating budgets.
