The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County appointed Sheila Wilson to Post 2 on the Board of Tax Assessors for a four-year term beginning July 1, 2025. Commissioner Gerald Douglas moved to approve the appointment; Commissioner Timothy Biddle seconded and the motion passed despite an objection from Commissioner Damon Hoyte.
Chairman Charles Coffey addressed the concern raised on the dais and said, “it is not about the who, it is about the what,” urging the Commission to focus on the vacancy and candidates' qualifications. Commissioner Hoyte had asked that the record show there were additional applicants (Latrese Brown and Elizabeth DeMunn) and expressed concern about potential ethics issues because he has litigation involving one of the applicants; Hoyte recorded an opposition on the appointment. The minutes indicate the motion carried with the other commissioners supporting the appointment.
