Residents urge committee to keep wastewater plant inside Lebanon; oppose Maple Hill Road (Site 22)

Multiple residents addressed the committee during the public-comment period to oppose Site 22 on Maple Hill Road, saying the property borders county homes and will harm nearby businesses and neighborhoods. Deborah Carver, who said she owns 56 acres at 165 Horn Drive and is building a glasshouse wedding venue, told the committee: "We're investing our life savings... If this sewer plant goes there, we're out of business." She urged the committee to choose a site that does not "affect the people of your community."

Other residents described repeated effluent-line leaks near their properties and said blasting required for construction would damage homes and reduce property values. John Thurston, representing Plantation South residents, said the land was rezoned for housing and that residents were promised an upscale development, not a sewer plant. Speakers asked the committee to consider alternatives and noted that property owners had not signed binding agreements to sell. The committee responded that landowners have indicated a willingness to talk but made no commitments and that the recommendation will go to the mayor and council for further study.
