The Statesboro City mayor and council on Aug. 4 authorized staff to enter negotiations with Kim McCorn and Associates Incorporated to provide engineering design services for the Burkhalter Road transportation improvement project.
Staff told the council that four firms responded to the city's request for qualifications, that staff conducted interviews and recommended Kim McCorn & Associates as the best-qualified firm. The staff presentation noted an intergovernmental agreement with Bullock County and that the county will share 50% of the design cost. Council moved, seconded and approved the authorization to negotiate.
The staff representative said the Burkhalter corridor has notable traffic stacking and needs improvements to handle growth; staff will return to council with negotiated contract terms and cost estimates for final approval.
