Commissioners schedule on-site meeting after reports Mercury Broadband contractor damaged water infrastructure and yards

County Administrator Jason Booth told commissioners that contractors working for Mercury Broadband have caused damage in Apple Valley, including water leaks, ripped manholes and unfilled holes in residents' yards. Booth said the water department and county staff will meet on-site with a Mercury Broadband representative the next morning at 10:30 a.m. to try to resolve the issues.
"But we have a meeting scheduled tomorrow at 10:30 out in Apple Valley," Booth said. He described incidents in which boring crews hit water lines and left dirt piles and unfilled holes after work, and said the water department is upset about the damage and leaks.
A commissioner added that contractors had torn up neighbors' yards and left them without cleanup. Booth said the county will meet on-site with the contractor and the water department to pursue a solution; he did not say whether the county will seek compensation or require remediation, and he noted Mercury Broadband may not be governed by the public utility commission in this matter.
