The motion was moved by Legislator Robert Ferris and seconded by Legislator Robert Cantwell; the Committee agreed to sponsor the resolution with Legislator Steel Potter opposed.
Legislator Anthony Doldo expressed reservations, saying he was concerned the contract "not being a cost savings to the County," that it might "not be positive for the inmates," and referenced issues Trinity has had at other facilities. Sheriff Pete Barnett spoke in support, saying the change "should have happened a long time ago," noting the vendor's familiarity with medical, religious and nutrition food requirements and that the contract would alleviate cooks being overworked at the Jail. Chairman Montigelli said the Sheriff and others would have an opportunity to speak on the resolution at the end of the meeting.
