Commission renames Deutsch Fest Hall to honor Lauren Zimmerman

The Ellis County commission voted to rename the Deutsch Fest Hall the "Lauren Zimmerman Unserlut Deutsch Fest Meeting Room" and directed staff to work with the fair board on signage and a naming-rights process.
Longtime fairgrounds volunteer Leo Dortzweiler told commissioners about the history of the fairgrounds and recommended a dedication to recognize Lauren Zimmerman and community contributors. "When he's gone, I'm not sure anybody's gonna remember what all went into this project and who all contributed," Dortzweiler said as he urged a memorial naming.
County administrator Darren Myers explained signage plans and a possible naming-rights process to reduce confusion among renters; commissioners voted to rename the Deutsch Fest Hall to the "Lauren Zimmerman Unserlut Deutsch Fest Meeting Room" and asked staff to return with proposed signage designs and a naming process at a future work session. Myers said funding for signage could come from fair deposit funds or operating/reserve budgets and staff would seek bids and consult the fair board.
