The plan includes potential projects and priorities that could make Milbank eligible for grants for storm-shelter construction and other mitigation work. Council member discussion cited the recent award of funds tied to sewer projects and coordination with county and regional partners.
Todd Kays of the First Planning District Association reported on regional planning support and recent grant activity, saying, "For every $1 in dues, $63 in state/federal money was leveraged," a figure the council used to emphasize the value of regional grant coordination. The adoption places Milbank in the approved county plan, which the city and county can leverage when applying for hazard-mitigation grants and loans.
