County announces FLOST election timing; GFL trash rate increase to appear on January water bills

At the Oct. 27 work session, County Manager Thomas Weaver updated commissioners on election timing and sanitation charges.
Weaver reminded residents that early voting for the Floyd/Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST) election begins Oct. 14 and that Election Day is Nov. 4 with voting at the Recreation Center. He also described county outreach via TextMyGov work-order signs and a quarterly financial statement that was included in the commission packet.
On sanitation, Weaver reported that waste hauler GFL has raised residential rates by $2 and increased the fee for an extra container to $14 per month. "The reason for the rate increase is due to the landfill tipping fees for them have doubled, however they are still the lowest and still in line with what everyone else is paying," Weaver said. He told the Commission the county will put the first month of the increase on January water bills so residents will begin seeing the change in that billing cycle.
