During the June 23 work session County Manager Thomas Weaver briefed commissioners on multiple operational items: two grant applications were resubmitted (one for sewer and one for a rails-to-trails walking trail) and the Friendship Road project was out to bid with bids expected in late July and award possible in August. Weaver said audits are ongoing and staff are working to assemble materials for the auditor.
Recreation Director Mordie Askew reported the splashpad is now up and running and fall registration for football has opened. County staff also announced a comprehensive plan update meeting scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m., open to the public, and noted that the county has hired a new animal-control officer who is completing training. Water department updates included that Tank 1 was cleaned on June 17 by US Tank and Tank 2 will be scheduled; 68 locates were completed and Columbus Water Works staff turnover was noted (John Otto retiring; Ken Barbour to replace him).
