Commission discusses C&D charges and clothing donations at recycling site; staff to contact charities

At the June 23 work session commissioners and staff discussed recent community confusion over disposal rules at the county recycling site. County Manager Thomas Weaver described the current policy: residents with an active water account may bring household garbage, small amounts of C&D, furniture, appliances, used motor oil, clothing, scrap metal at no charge; local businesses are charged for disposal, currently $35 per unit.
Work-session participants said volunteers and charitable organizations had been suggested as alternatives for collecting reusable clothing. Commissioner Jason Frost recommended contacting Goodwill, Salvation Army or local organizations; County Manager Weaver said he would reach out to potential partners to arrange clothing pickup and reduce confusion about what may be left under the pavilion. The board discussed signage and possibly reverting to a tag system to clarify acceptable items.
