Parents urge UCPS to restore traffic director and crossing guards at Waxhaw Elementary

Katie Fisher told the board she was asking the district to "reconsider their decision to get rid of the traffic director at Waxhaw Elementary School and make the turns out of the parking lot right turn only," warning that the change would gridlock the car-rider line and force buses and families to reroute.
Linda Robinson, a 33-year veteran teacher and Union County resident, asked the board to explain why crossing guards were being eliminated and why the district had not consulted local police, site-based teams, or principals. She said the district needed to "help us to understand how students who walk to school are supposed to get there safely every day." Board members and staff acknowledged the concerns and said the district would monitor the changes; staff also noted some of the changes were tied to budget constraints.
