Eric Lawrence (City Council member, Ward 2) used his public-comment time to press county and city officials to be more present in neighborhoods and to engage constituents outside election periods.
"It is so much more than sitting down at the election commission with your signs and your tents. It is community involvement. It is interacting with everyone," Lawrence said, adding that he recently spent time walking a neighborhood and explaining planning processes to a resident whose subdivision case had been postponed at the Regional Planning Commission. He cited early election turnout figures as evidence that residents are paying attention to who shows up.
