Finance committee questions $104,000 Axon Enterprise charge and recurring software bills

The Vernon County Finance Committee on Jan. — during its review of December 2025 bills — asked county staff to explain a roughly $104,000 payment to Axon Enterprise. A committee member asked whether the charge was “just tasers,” and staff replied it covers tasers, body cameras and the associated cloud and software services that automatically sync and store recordings.
Committee members also reviewed software renewals listed from other vendors (CDW Government and similar contracts) and asked for clarification on recurring human services payments. Staff said fees for Kickapoo Counseling and other providers are for the county’s Comprehensive Community Services program and are reimbursable through Medicaid rather than from the county tax levy.
Beyond specific line items, a member asked that future bill packets include a single “grand total” line for the month to help the committee gauge month-to-month spending. Staff agreed to add that summary line to the packet. The committee requested follow-up on apparent duplicate Wisconsin DOT entries for Cornell Lane bridge work; staff said the two near-identical charges reflect one large state payment that is charged across two county accounts (town and county cost-share) and that they will provide the ledger detail later.
