Joe Smith, director of facilities for CUSD 201, said the proposed building footprint would replace the existing playground and parking lot; the plan would locate a new field and two playgrounds where the current building now stands. "The proposed new building would essentially take the place of our current playground and parking lot. Right here would be a site for a new field and 2 playgrounds where the current building is," he said.
Smith said the new building would improve safety systems and accessibility features, listing "sprinkler systems, safety items, ADA," and describing the design intent as "making a building designed for the future for everybody." The presentation did not include construction timing, estimated costs for those systems, or a detailed phasing plan.
