The Sunol Glen Unified School District governing board voted to approve a permit-to-enter that allows the bridge contractor to access portions of district grounds to complete north-side bridge work.
The board discussed a temporary 10-foot fence relocation, limited tree trimming on the district side and a required replanting and mitigation plan at the end of project work. A contractor representative said, “Moving the fence for 10 feet would just be for this year until November 30,” and described heavy equipment mobilization as an as-needed activity primarily scheduled for nights or weekends to avoid daytime interference with school operations. The board also asked for privacy screening and other measures to reduce distractions for students during the school year.
Separately the board approved a permit for Pacific Gas & Electric Company to access a utility pole/telephone line on district property; PG&E’s work was described as a short weekend replacement. Chair (Speaker 1) moved approval of the contractor permit and a trustee seconded; members voted in favor.
The contractor and district staff said they have coordinated with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and plan multi-year phasing (north side this year, south side next year, and final tie-ins the third year). Construction windows in the creek were described as June 1 to Oct. 15 for in-creek work; the earliest mobilization on district grounds was clarified to be after the district’s June 5 graduation. The district’s legal team reviewed the permit language and staff confirmed the permit is provided at no monetary compensation to the district but includes restoration obligations for any damage.
The board recorded the approvals and directed staff to confirm mitigation and screening details before field work begins.
