Westport approves sergeant retirement, reserve appointment and new hires for police department

The Westport Select Board on Aug. 3 accepted the retirement of Sergeant Scott Arrington and immediately approved a request from Police Chief Chris Dunn to appoint him as a reserve officer.
"Sergeant Arrington has been a dedicated... detective, sergeant for our community for the past 31 years," Chief Dunn said, asking the board to accept the resignation and keep Arrington available as a reserve. The board voted unanimously to accept the retirement and to make the reserve appointment effective Aug. 16.
The board also approved the appointment of Jacob Days as a full‑time police officer effective Sept. 6, amended to be contingent on successful completion of a background check and any additional standard hiring requirements. Chief Dunn told the board Days is currently a police officer in New Bedford and that his family has ties to Westport; Days told the board he is "looking forward to being a Westport police officer, and I appreciate the opportunity."
In a separate personnel action, Deputy Chief Rebello recommended promoting Field Training Officer Michael Chica to the rank of sergeant effective Sept. 27, praising Chica’s mentorship and community outreach work. The board approved the promotion unanimously and discussed plans to fill the FTO role separately.
