Public works reports Well 4 pump failure; city says service restored within 24 hours

Rainier public works staff told the council that Well 4 experienced a catastrophic pump failure during a recent heat wave. Staff said the failed pump is more than 15 years old, past its expected 8–10 year lifespan, and normally pumps about 12,000,000 gallons per year; a local company restored service within 24 hours.
Public works also reported finishing installation of 86 curb stops across four parking lots (saving roughly $1,800 on materials), adding eight 25-mph signs in Tippsue to bring the total to 10 signs, and conducting a successful community cleanup with more than 70 volunteers. Staff said new lights have been installed at Wilkowski Park and the city is seeking bids for additional cameras to address vandalism and safety concerns.
