The council approved an amended street‑resurfacing request for proposals that will ask contractors to price work on up to 10 priority roads, giving the town flexibility to select the most cost‑effective combination. Public Works Director Matt Sarles told the council that coring shows substantial asphalt in many streets (up to 5.5 inches in spots) and that breaking Clubhouse Road into half‑segments would allow the town to pursue the worst sections first rather than commit to the full length in a single contract.
"What I meant by in 0.5 was what I proposed from the North Entrance Of Rice Mill to Old Georgetown would be cut in 0.5," Sarles explained, describing how the town can parcel Clubhouse Road into multiple bid packages. Councilmembers discussed timelines, a pre‑bid conference, and ensuring bid openings and RFP deadlines align with the September council meeting so the governing body can act on awards in a timely way. One councilmember urged tightening the bid opening schedule so prices can be locked into the current market.
The RFP as adopted includes Clubhouse Road segments, Rice Mill to Old Georgetown, Old Point Lane, 27th Street and 40th Street as initial candidates; extra funds, if available, could add 40th Street, Bay, and Inlet. Council asked staff to ensure the RFP allows bidder pricing by section so the town can award only the subset of roads it can afford. The RFP was approved by voice vote.
