A presenter on the state benefits video announced that union-represented state employees may qualify for a $300 benefit in 2026 that will be deposited into a flexible spending arrangement (FSA) to cover eligible health-care expenses. "This $300 is deposited in a flexible spending arrangement, or FSA, which is like a bank account for health care expenses," the presenter said.
The presenter said the funds may be used for the employee, a spouse or state-registered domestic partner, and children who are not covered on the employee's medical plan. Internal Revenue Service rules apply, and the presenter listed typical eligible expenses including copayments, eyeglasses, dental work (including orthodontia), sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher, bandages, first-aid kits and blood pressure monitors. The presenter clarified the funds can also be used toward an annual deductible.
Only union-represented employees are eligible for the $300 benefit, the presenter said, and other requirements — including making under a certain salary and enrollment in specific medical plans — also apply. Eligible employees will receive a mailed welcome letter from the FSA administrator, Navia Benefits Solutions, in January. First-time recipients should expect a Navia debit card to arrive by mail in an unmarked envelope before the end of February; the presenter said the $300 will be available to spend immediately once the card is received.
The presenter described a carryover feature that makes unused funds available the following year up to a carryover limit for those who did not spend prior balances.
