Brown County commissioners voted to authorize the chair to sign a resolution applying for federal bridge-improvement funds for candidate bridges, including projects referenced at Elm Lake and on Hale Mile.
A commissioner explained that recent federal bridge programs vary year to year and that the county has applied for these funds multiple times. He noted one bridge's federal evaluation score may be insufficient for full funding but recommended submitting applications so the county could at least complete project design work if awarded. "I would recommend that we sign our resolution," the commissioner said, and the commission moved, seconded and carried the authorization by voice vote.
The county intends to submit the grant application to secure design funds and position bridge projects for future funding rounds. Commissioners did not record a final construction schedule in the meeting but agreed to include the projects in grant applications and design planning.
