Members agreed that the next meeting should focus on data-driven findings. A task-force member urged staff to run a trend analysis by entity type (counties, cities, school districts, special districts), calculate ratios (unrestricted cash or unassigned fund balance as a percent of budget), and compile an outlier list for targeted follow-up calls to explain large balances.
Alex Nielsen (auditor's office) said staff will distribute a CFO survey to capture how entities manage reserves and will add ratio-based visualizations to the explorer. The treasurer's office and auditor agreed to produce PTIF-level and entity-level interest-income summaries where feasible; participants cited an approximate $1,800,000,000 in interest income last year from the PTIF as a starting point for analysis.
