A commissioner raised concerns that Department 10’s part-time personal services account (line 1001300) has been substantially over budget across multiple years — roughly 200%+ previously, 312% over in 2025, and projecting about 450% over in 2026. The commissioner said the overrun appears to stem from one person charged as part-time but working far more hours, and suggested directing the sheriff to stop charging the part-time deputy account until the board can review.
Other commissioners agreed additional information is needed. One said, “I think it's a good question to ask them and just get an answer of why we're seeing it so far above the budget,” and the board agreed to place discussion of the issue on the next meeting agenda and to request detailed budget comparisons for prior years.
