Santa Cruz County Board interviews candidates to fill student trustee vacancy

Each candidate answered four pre-distributed questions in a 10-minute, one-on-one format. The board explained that notes would be collected for the record and that there is no formal scoring rubric. No members of the public spoke during the special-meeting public-comment period.
Candidates repeatedly emphasized amplifying student voice and improving access to services. "I firmly believe that students should have a strong role in decisions that directly impact them," said Amy, a student trustee candidate, during her interview. Other candidates proposed initiatives ranging from a countywide student council to improved awareness of accommodations for students with disabilities.
The board completed the interviews and asked students to regroup with Student Leadership & Engagement Coordinator Andres Ortiz; the transcript does not record an appointment or vote on the vacancy.
