Health staff report no West Nile detections, back‑to‑school shots underway

Public-health staff reported surveillance and clinic activity to the committee on Aug. 4, saying mosquito monitoring continues through Oct. 1 and no samples have tested positive for West Nile virus so far.
"None of them have tested positive for West Nile virus, which is great, of course," a public-health official said. The official reported 40 mosquito samples taken and encouraged continued vigilance, noting neighboring counties have reported West Nile activity.
Staff also reported 45 childhood immunizations (mostly back‑to‑school shots), five tuberculosis investigations (one ongoing), seven blood screens for school entry and nearly 979 visitors to the county booth at a recent fair. The department said it distributed 32 Narcan kits and received a donated public naloxone box from a neighboring county.
Officials framed the updates as part of routine seasonal work (inspections, immunizations and surveillance) and asked the public and partner agencies to continue reporting concerns.
