A county official reported on a new mobile crisis program at the committee's Aug. 4 meeting and said the program is already seeing in-person and mobile appointments as staff expand services.
"In month of June, we saw 6 crisis appointments in July 4," the official said, adding that services operate from the Washington office and that the department will meet people where they are rather than requiring clinic visits. The official said mobile response pairs a mental-health professional with a peer-support individual.
The official said the department plans to recruit about 10 full‑time positions over the next six to eight months, including certified peer-support specialists (staff with lived experience of addiction or recovery) and credentialed mental‑health professionals. Qualifications for clinical positions will include multiple years of related experience or a bachelor's degree in a related field, the official said.
The program will be presented in more detail to the full board at an upcoming meeting; department leaders are scheduled to appear before the board and will return to this committee to answer questions, the presenter said.
