CTA opens contract talks with nine articles; board accepts sunshine proposal

"Article 10, salary. Article 21, fringe benefits. Article 5, hours. Article 8, leaves. Article 20, teacher safety. Article 22, class size," Sook read, and added they sought to strengthen personnel-records language to clarify what is included in personnel files and to add just-cause protections used in other districts. Trustees asked clarifying questions about the safety language and what 'just cause' clarification would mean in practice; CTA representatives said the safety item is intended to add safeguards for staff and the personnel-file language aims to strengthen clarity about reprimand processes.
A motion to accept the CTA sunshine proposal was moved, seconded and approved by the board, initiating the formal bargaining timeline and scheduling follow-up negotiation dates.
