Board approves MOU with El Monte Promise Foundation for paid student internships

Valerie (Val) Cuevas, the Foundation’s new executive director, introduced the program during public comment and described support for up to 24 students to receive paid internship hours at $18.71 per hour for up to 50 hours. "I'm here to speak in favor of item F10... the approval of the MOU for a student internship program that will be underwritten by the El Monte Promise Foundation," Cuevas told trustees.
Trustees asked operational questions about timing and eligibility (juniors and seniors) and potential complications for seniors who graduate in June; staff said the MOU covers spring placements and any fall continuation would depend on remaining grant funds. The board expressed support for paid pathways and workforce exposure for students and thanked Cuevas for partnering with the district.
