Community center and North Campus plans revised after DSA comments; trustees question EV charger costs

District facilities staff told trustees that the community center plans were revised in response to Division of the State Architect (DSA) comments and resubmitted: the agency requested details on ADA circulation including a truncated-dome tactile surface at van parking and clarified signage and stall-coloring for accessible stalls. The district's architect has made the requested corrections and staff expect the next DSA review to be approval, after which the district will submit plans to the county.
Paul (speaker 11) also updated the board on the North Campus design, which the district returned to the architect to address deficiencies related to the planned separation and circulation around the building front. Trustees discussed EV charging stations tied to parking: one trustee raised utilization and cost concerns and asked whether the district could seek an exemption because the site is not adjacent to a major highway and many residents can charge at home. "The state is requiring that if we put parking lots in here, we put charging stations, that's gonna cost the school district money. Money we could put to better use in the classrooms," the trustee said. Staff said they will seek an exemption when submitting plans to the county and will track requirements and estimates as the project moves forward.
The board asked staff to continue work on site plans and to report back with updated cost estimates and any county or state determinations on exemptions.
