Florencio Briones was re-elected board president of the El Monte Union High School District for a one-year term at the board’s Dec. 10 meeting, winning a 4–1 vote after a nomination by Dr. Melissa Galaviz and a second from Dr. Luis Guzman.
The board also elected Dr. Luis Guzman vice president (4–1) and reappointed Dr. Melissa Galaviz as clerk (4–1). Trustees approved additional representative assignments unanimously: Briones will serve as the LACSA (county) representative and Dr. Guzman will continue as the district’s county committee representative, both by 5–0 votes.
Trustees offered brief remarks of appreciation for outgoing leadership and described the votes as a continuation of steady governance heading into the 2026 school year. "We have a full complement of the board and the executive cabinet," Board Secretary Dr. Edward Zuniga told the meeting when introducing the reorganization process.
The reorganization process followed the board’s standard annual practice and included opportunity for trustees to speak in support of nominees before the roll-call votes. No motions to reopen or reconsider the officer elections were recorded.
