Shabbona board repeals vacation‑rental ordinance governing short‑term rentals

The board voted to repeal the village's vacation‑rental ordinance, which had required licensing and local regulation for short‑term rentals. Staff explained the county health department and county licensing already regulate many aspects of rental operations and trustees questioned whether the village should duplicate those rules.

Trustees said they did not recall any local short‑term rental operations that had been regulated under the current ordinance and argued that removing duplicative local licensing would reduce burdens on property owners. The repeal was approved by roll call.
