Board hears summer-school participation and learning gains

Sarah Decker, the elementary school leader, told the board the district saw solid summer-school engagement and early academic gains. “We had a great turnout for summer school. We had 60 students who enrolled,” Decker said, adding that 42 students completed the program and 11 missed fewer than one day.
Decker described targeted math and ELA work for K–4 and STEM activities in upper grades, and she credited partnerships (North Olympic Library System, Pacific Science Center) and volunteers for hands-on experiences. Board members praised teachers and noted the program’s role in credit retrieval for older students and in building readiness for the school year. The leadership reports included similar summaries from Brooks Middle School and the high-school service program, describing field trips, SEL activities, and projects that staff said increased student engagement and confidence.
