House recognizes guests, students and community relief organizations

During the opening remarks the House recognized a range of guests and local officials from across Tennessee, including county mayors, municipal leaders and family members of legislators attending the session.
Representative Johnson highlighted more than 1,000 Knox County students who organized an "ice out" rally to call for protections in schools; Johnson said the event was "100% student organized" and praised the participants and volunteers who kept the event orderly.
Members also thanked community organizations that responded to the storm. Reverend Salinas named groups including the Tennessee Immigrant Rights Coalition, Feed Up and the Tennessee Equity Alliance for feeding, housing and assisting affected residents, and he urged recognition of their work on behalf of immigrants and others in need.
Other members recognized utility crews and linemen from agencies such as Memphis Light Gas and Water and Southwest Electric Cooperative for restoring power and trimming lines ahead of the storm season.
