Board reviews Pony Creek/GMU water-line plans and rural water options

Staff briefed the board on a Pony Creek water-line proposal that would be built by a developer (Pony Creek) to meet GMU specifications and largely financed with federal funds. Staff said the developer would build to GMU spec and dedicate the line; GMU would have a meter at the east side of the lake and Honey Creek would own the domain of the line under the lake to serve the development.
Board members asked about routing options to provide looped feed for better fire protection and whether funds would extend service north and down toward Deacon; staff said these design and funding questions remain in the design phase and that ownership/dedication mechanics are being worked out. The board noted benefits such as improved fire protection and lower insurance costs for properties served if the project is completed to spec.
"They're the developer on it. GMU is just the pass-through," staff said, describing the developer-led financing approach. Staff emphasized that final design decisions—such as looping to ensure redundancy and fire protection—remain to be determined as the project moves through design and funding stages.
