U-46 says district ready for school year; enrollment tops 31,400, vacancies fall to 152

District staff told the SD U-46 Board of Education on Aug. 3 that the district is prepared to welcome students for the 2026–27 school year following an extensive, district-wide moving effort. "This was an extraordinary undertaking involving 47 schools," presenter Lola Miestorovich said, adding that movers completed the physical relocations and schools have additional support through Aug. 20 for final classroom adjustments.
Miestorovich provided enrollment and staffing figures: "We currently have over 31,400 students enrolled for the 2026–27 school year," and she reported progress on hiring: "we've reduced our teacher vacancies from 350 in early May, and now to 152 as of July 28," with continued recruitment and professional learning scheduled before the Aug. 24 staff return. The district also described kindergarten play dates, middle-school transition events, and programs such as Freshman Connection to support students before the first day of school.
