Plain City staff warns community may lose local services as Memorial Health opens Jerome center

“We are monitoring for, potentially Plain City becoming a little bit of a medical desert,” the staff member said, citing concern especially for pharmacy, primary care and urgent‑care access in the short term. Staff circulated a draft letter to Memorial Health and recommended sending a formal communication asking the health system to consider retaining or restoring local services. Council members expressed disappointment but agreed that outreach and the circulated letter were appropriate next steps.
Staff noted commercial development planned in Plain City could help attract future health providers, but added that near‑term access and travel times for some residents may increase while the new Jerome center comes online.
