Roeland Park DEI Committee outlines 75th-anniversary work, offers input on conversion-therapy response

Carrie Paulette, co-chair of Roeland Park’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, told the council the committee has collected eight in-person interviews and 12 written responses for a 75th-anniversary video and will hold a public viewing on Sept. 21 before the council meeting.
Paulette also said the committee has begun talking about recent developments around a conversion-therapy ban and offered to help the city gather perspectives from those most affected. When Council member Fadely asked how to include impacted residents within the Attorney General’s 60‑day timeline, Paulette suggested outreach through Roots Church and residents in Mullen Park and said the committee would review draft language and provide input.
The DEI presentation covered ongoing intercommittee collaboration, a proposed policy-handbook template to share with peer cities, and planned participation at a county DEI coalition meeting. The council asked a few clarifying questions but did not take formal action on the conversion-therapy item during the meeting.
