Lieutenant reports increase in patrol activity and calls for service

Lieutenant McGovern gave the council a public-safety report describing patrol activity and call volume.
He said splitting command and adding a night commander increased patrol presence and that area checks within the city nearly doubled. "So from last month, we had 101 calls for service; this month, there was a 153," he said, noting 44 more area checks and about 20 more traffic stops than the previous month.
McGovern said the increased patrol presence may have contributed to a decrease in some property-crime reports, though he acknowledged that coincidence cannot be ruled out. He reiterated that there were no major incidents or crimes requiring significant resources during the reporting period.
