Board: district will levy full 18 mills next year despite rollback
Summary
District staff told the board the operating millage will be levied at 18 mills in 2026–27 despite a statutory rollback that reduced earlier cushion; voters previously approved 18.6297 mills in May 2025 to provide a cushion against future rollbacks.

During the budget presentation staff explained how the district’s millage interacts with taxable values and rollback mechanics and said the district expects to levy the full 18 mills for operating purposes next year.
“We'll be levying 18 mills,” the Presenter said while explaining that a rollback of about 2.422 mills will reduce the district’s cushion but leave the permitted 18‑mill levy intact. Presenters noted voters had approved 18.6297 mills in May 2025 to provide that cushion.
Board members asked follow‑up clarifying questions about the term of the approved millage and were told the current authorization runs through 2031. Members discussed that several neighboring districts experienced loss of cushion following the rollback.
