Sheriff's representative reports steady presence, rise in domestic violence calls

A representative of the Thurston County Sheriff's Office told the council that although December statistics show a slight decrease in some measures, patrol presence in the district has increased and area checks and traffic stops have become more frequent. He said the apparent decrease in recorded calls can be affected by how deputies log area checks in the CAD system.
The representative reported that "the amount of domestic violence calls have tripled in the town since one couple moved in down here on Binghamton," described one recurring problematic house in the 500 block, and recounted a recent search-warrant and arrest at that address. He also said the office has doubled patrol coverage in the Edward district that includes Rainier.
