Public archer urges CAB to stop petition removing 80% let‑off cap on compound bows

During public comment on a petition to remove the 80% let‑off restriction for compound bows, Chris Jasmine, representing himself and the Traditional Archers of Nevada, urged the CAB to advise the commission not to consider the petition in its current form. Jasmine argued the petition contains internal contradictions — at once claiming it would not make compound bows easier to shoot and elsewhere asserting it would increase accuracy and harvest efficiency.

Jasmine said enforcement is feasible with inexpensive field devices and cautioned that permitting unlimited let‑off could open the door to further technology acceptance such as crossbows. ‘‘A 10 minute Google search before I walked into this meeting turns up multiple commercially available bow scales... Any warden walking in the field with one of these that would fit in his back pocket could draw a bow back and immediately know what let off that bow is,’’ Jasmine said. CAB members and NDOW staff discussed enforcement realities and the need for clearer equipment definitions if the petition advances; the CAB did not make a binding commission decision but recorded comments and discussed recommending no position or not supporting the petition as presented.
