Commissioners waive permit fees for new Pocatello Valley fire station

Ken Gibbs, a commissioner with the Pocatello Valley Fire Protection District, and Fire Chief Karen Adjar told the board the district needs a new station to serve rapid growth between Inkom and Pocatello and asked the county to waive building-permit fees to ease taxpayer burden.
"We need a new fire station," Gibbs said, describing a two-bay garage to house additional apparatus; he noted the county deeded property on Old Highway 91 in 1986 for a station and that current apparatus are sometimes in a tent and out of service in winter. Planning director Hal Johnson said he reviewed the drawings and that a code analysis would be needed for egress concerns but otherwise recommended honoring the fee-waiver request.
Commissioners discussed lot size, circulation and growth in the area, and one moved to waive the permit fees for the construction; the motion passed on voice vote. The planning office will complete the code review required for the single-exit condition and proceed with inspections and permit processing under the amended arrangement.
